The firm was founded in 1949 by Herbert W. Appletree CPA.  He later joined forces with Fred Kern in 1964,  Ken Appletree in 1974, Greg Kern in 1975 and David Pianta in 1987.

The firm provides a wide variety of tax, accounting and consulting services.  Our clientele is primarily closely held businesses and the related family members.  We also serve several non-profit organizations as their accounting advisor.

The firm adheres to the elements of quality control as described by the Statement on Quality Control Standards issued by the AICPA.  The most recently completed quality control review by an independent New York firm of CPA's disclosed that Appletree & Kern meets the requirements of quality control standards without exception.  That review was completed August 2, 2002.

Besides providing professional services the firm is involved with numerous civic organizations, charities and associations.  Additionally, Appletree and Kern supports youth recreational activities including the sponsorship of the Junior Golf "SDRAWKCAB"  (BACKWARDS) Tournament at J.C. Martin Golf Course each summer.  

The firm has been offering electronic tax filing (E-file) since 2002.  E-file can  cut your refund turnaround time in half.
